HDMI ARC, Optical or RCA: Which TV Amplifier Input Do You Need?
Kongsi
TV audio • choose before buying
Choose the amplifier input from the TV’s actual audio output, then check the exact amplifier version and supported format. HDMI ARC, optical and analogue RCA are different connection paths; the words “5.1” or “7 Channel” do not establish which one a product accepts.
For the three CCF options below—5.1 Lite, 660BT White and 7 Channel Standard—the verified listings identify analogue audio inputs. Do not buy one expecting a direct optical or ARC connection without checking the selected version.
Start with the Output on Your TV
Record your TV model and photograph the labelled audio ports. A socket used to feed picture or sound into a TV is not automatically an output for the amplifier. Look for an audio-output label or an HDMI port specifically supporting ARC/eARC.
| TV output available | Amplifier-side requirement | Before you buy |
|---|---|---|
| Analogue AUDIO OUT L/R | Compatible stereo analogue input, such as the listed RCA inputs. | Confirm the TV ports are outputs and check level/control requirements. |
| DIGITAL AUDIO OUT / OPTICAL | An optical input supporting the TV’s audio format, or suitable digital-to-analogue conversion. | A simple optical-to-RCA plug adapter is not a substitute for conversion. |
| HDMI ARC / eARC | A compatible ARC/eARC audio device, or a suitable TV audio-return converter. | Check the specified port, return-audio support and accepted formats at both ends. |

If a TV only shows HDMI ports without confirming audio return, consult its manual. Sony’s ARC explanation distinguishes ARC-compatible TV/audio connections from an ordinary HDMI connection.
Compare the Exact CCF Version
| Selected option | Verified audio inputs | Version decision |
|---|---|---|
| 5.1 Lite | RCA audio inputs and front AUX. | Optical/coaxial are listed for 5.1 upgrade; HDMI/ARC is listed for the separate 5.1 HDMI option. Do not transfer those claims to Lite. |
| 660BT White | AUX1 and AUX2 stereo RCA pairs. | Optical and ARC inputs are not listed for this option. Check conversion if your TV has only digital audio outputs. |
| 7 Channel Standard | AUX, CD and DVD stereo RCA pairs. | The separate Upgrade description adds optical/coaxial. Standard’s channel name does not imply those inputs or HDMI ARC. |
The 5.1 page’s HDMI option is described as having HDMI connections and ARC. That is a reason to request its exact connection and format information, not a guarantee of eARC, every surround format or compatibility with every TV.
Read AUDIO INPUT and AUDIO OUT Separately

The 7 Channel Standard has RCA sockets serving different directions. Match the TV’s suitable audio output to the amplifier’s suitable audio input, not to its LINE or REC output.

The 660BT White also separates its music inputs from speaker terminals. This article concerns the TV-to-amplifier path. For the next connection, read our RCA audio cable and speaker cable guide.
If Your TV Has Only Digital Audio Outputs
Choose an appropriate amplifier version
Confirm the input and supported format on that exact version. Include your microphone and speaker requirements when comparing it with an analogue-input model.
Keep an analogue-input amplifier
Identify a converter that accepts the TV’s output and provides a suitable analogue output. Check power, cables, format and operation before ordering.
An optical-to-analogue DAC performs an actual signal conversion; it is not simply a change of plug. StarTech’s optical/coaxial-to-stereo-RCA converter specification is one example of this device category, not a verified accessory recommendation for your CCF setup.
For HDMI audio return, confirm that a converter explicitly accepts TV ARC/eARC as required. An extractor intended for a player’s ordinary HDMI output may serve a different signal path. Avantree’s HAX06 guide illustrates why direction, ARC/eARC operation and PCM requirements are device-specific.
If the chosen receiver or converter requires two-channel PCM, check that the TV can supply that format for your intended source. Do not assume that optical or HDMI support automatically includes Dolby/DTS decoding. A stereo conversion path should not be purchased with the expectation of preserving discrete 5.1 channels.
Check How You Want to Use the System
- TV programme or karaoke music? State whether audio comes from built-in TV apps, a connected player or another source.
- Music plus microphones? Check the microphone/receiver path separately. A TV audio connection does not establish microphone compatibility.
- TV remote volume? Confirm which device controls volume for the selected route; changing to an optical or converted analogue path can change this behaviour.
- Existing speakers? Send the speaker model, impedance, rated power and quantity so the amplifier output can also be checked.
- Complete purchase? Confirm the exact amplifier option, conversion device if needed, power accessories and cables. Do not assume they are bundled.

Does every HDMI port support ARC?
No. Confirm ARC/eARC support and the designated port in both devices’ instructions. An HDMI connector alone is not proof that the device can receive TV return audio.
Does CCF 5.1 Lite include optical or HDMI ARC?
The verified Lite description lists RCA and front AUX inputs. The page lists optical/coaxial for the separate upgrade option and HDMI/ARC for the HDMI option. Check the selected version rather than borrowing features from another option.
Can I connect optical audio straight to the RCA input?
That requires suitable digital-to-analogue conversion, not just a passive cable. Check the converter’s input, output, supported format and power requirements with the TV and amplifier.
Will a 5.1 or 7-channel label guarantee TV surround sound?
No. Check decoding support, input format and the intended speaker arrangement for the exact model. The channel label alone is not evidence of Dolby/DTS support or a discrete surround path.
Send Your TV Model Before Choosing a Version
Send CCF Audio the TV model, a clear photo of its audio-output labels, the amplifier option you are considering, and your speaker details. Mention whether you want TV sound, home karaoke or both, and include your delivery destination in Malaysia.
