If your TV is connected to an amplifier but there is no sound, do not start by changing speakers. First check whether the TV is actually sending audio out through the correct port.

Optical audio normally uses a square optical digital output on the TV and a matching optical input on the amplifier or converter. Coaxial digital audio uses a different RCA-style digital connection.
Analog audio is different again. Some older TVs may have headphone output or RCA audio output, but many modern TVs do not provide analog audio output.
Check the TV Settings
- Set sound output to external speaker, audio system, HDMI ARC, optical or digital output.
- Enable HDMI ARC or eARC if that is the connection being used.
- Enable HDMI CEC if the TV requires it for ARC control.

Do Not Connect Passive Speakers Directly to a TV
Passive speakers need amplifier power. A TV audio output is normally a signal output, not speaker power output.
