4 Car Speakers and a Subwoofer: Is a 4-Channel Amp Enough?

Car audio buying guide · Malaysia

A four-channel amplifier can power four compatible car speakers, but it does not have a fifth independent channel for a passive subwoofer. If all four speakers need their own amplified channel, plan separate subwoofer amplification, a suitable five-channel amplifier, or a powered car subwoofer.

A four-channel amp may also suit a two-speaker-plus-sub system when the manufacturer supports the required bridged operation. The choice starts with your speaker plan, not the largest wattage printed on the amplifier.

Four Car Speakers and a Sub: Choose Your Route

The plans below describe equipment roles. They are not wiring diagrams or a claim that any speaker can be connected to any amplifier.

01 / FOUR SPEAKERS NOW

Use the four channels for the speakers

Plan one suitable speaker load per channel. A subwoofer can be a later addition with its own compatible amplification.

A four-channel amp is a candidate for this stage.

02 / FOUR SPEAKERS + PASSIVE SUB

Plan a separate subwoofer power stage

Compare a four-channel amp plus a suitable subwoofer amp with a five-channel unit that has a suitable sub channel.

Check both the speaker channels and the subwoofer rating.

03 / FOUR SPEAKERS + POWERED SUB

The subwoofer has its own amplifier

The four-channel amp can serve the speakers. The powered sub still needs a compatible audio signal, vehicle power and installation plan.

Confirm the signal feed; do not assume an output is available.

04 / TWO SPEAKERS + PASSIVE SUB

Check whether a bridged plan is supported

Some four-channel models can use two channels for the speakers and combine the remaining pair for a subwoofer.

Confirm the exact model, bridged load and rated output first.

Count the speaker loads and crossover arrangements, not just the visible cones. A component set with a passive crossover and a fully active component system can need different numbers of amplifier channels.

Does Bridging Create an Extra Channel?

No. Bridging combines two suitable channels to drive one load. When a pair is bridged for a subwoofer, those channels are no longer available as two independent speaker channels.

For example, a supported two-speaker-plus-sub arrangement uses two channels for the left and right speakers and the remaining pair for the sub. That is different from independently amplifying four speakers and a subwoofer.

Do not simply double up the door speakers to “free” a channel. Sharing channels changes the load and available control. Have the complete arrangement checked against the exact amplifier instructions before connecting anything.

KICKER’s bridging explanation also notes that not every amplifier supports bridging. Its model-specific examples are not SK790.4 wiring instructions.

Where the CCF SK790.4 Fits

The CCF 7900W 4 Channel Car Amplifier is the SK790.4 option to consider when your plan calls for four car-audio amplifier channels. Its current product information lists the following:

Item Published product information
Model / selected option SK790.4 / 7900W
Amplifier type Four-channel Class A/B
Supply DC 12 V
Listed RMS output 120 W × 4 at 4 Ω

These are the store’s published specifications, not an independent bench test. “7900W” identifies the listed option; it is not a 7,900 W RMS rating. The separate bridged figure in the listing is labelled peak, so it should not be treated as a continuous subwoofer output rating.

Before You Order: Confirm These Four Details

  1. Your speaker plan. Provide the front and rear speaker models, their impedance and rated power. Say whether they use passive crossovers or separate active channels.
  2. Your subwoofer plan. State whether it is powered or passive. For a passive model, provide its model, voice-coil configuration and intended final load; identify where low-pass filtering will be provided.
  3. Your source and vehicle. Include the vehicle year, head-unit model and whether a factory amplifier is present. Input compatibility and any conversion hardware need to be checked.
  4. Your installation requirements. Have the installer confirm amplifier operating mode, power cabling, protection, grounding, mounting and ventilation. Product price and installation cost are separate decisions.

The original SK790.4 gallery shows CH1–CH4 and bridge markings. Those labels alone do not establish the complete permitted wiring arrangement or a suitable subwoofer load. Confirm those details for the exact unit before choosing a bridged setup.

Send Your Car Audio Plan Before Ordering

Already know that you need a four-channel amplifier? Open the SK790.4 / 7900W option and review the current listing.

If the system choice is still unclear, send this short checklist through CCF Audio’s contact page:

Vehicle/year: …
Head unit / factory amplifier: …
Front and rear speakers: models, quantity, impedance …
Subwoofer: model, powered or passive …
Goal: four speakers only / four speakers plus sub / two speakers plus sub …
Delivery destination in Malaysia: …

These details help CCF confirm whether the 7900W option belongs in your system before you place the order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can one four-channel amp run four speakers and a sub?

It does not provide five independent amplified channels. A powered sub or a separate subwoofer amplifier changes the system plan. Shared-channel or bridged arrangements require an exact load and operating-mode check; do not assume a universal connection.

Can I buy a four-channel amp now and add bass later?

Yes, you can plan the four channels for compatible speakers and add separately powered bass later. Confirm the future signal feed, vehicle electrical requirements and installation space before buying.

Is a five-channel amplifier always the better choice?

No. Compare its speaker-channel ratings, dedicated sub-channel rating and allowed loads with your equipment. A separate sub amp offers another upgrade path, but adds equipment and installation requirements.

Does the CCF 7900W option provide 7,900 W RMS?

No. The current SK790.4 product page lists 120 W × 4 at 4 Ω as its RMS figure. Treat the option name and peak figures separately, and confirm the ratings for your intended operating mode.
